Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, has defended her closeness to President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying she will not apologize for being close to the President because that is part of her work.
She was responding to allegations flying around that she is being treated like a ‘Super Minister’ by President Uhuru Kenyatta due to her personal friendship with him.
The Opposition led by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, had raised concerns that Uhuru was using state resources to protect Waiguru from prosecution for attempting to steal from NYS, something he never did for other CSs like Charity Ngilu, who was also in the same shoes as Waiguru, and wondered why the Devolution CS was so special and dear to the President.
Speaking in a media interview yesterday, Waiguru admitted to being close to Uhuru, just like every other Cabinet Secretary, saying the nature of her job dictates so.
Waiguru revealed that she is truly ‘guilty’ when it comes to working closely with the President, saying she consults and talks with him daily and all the time.
“Being a Cabinet Secretary, you consult with the President on a daily basis just like my colleagues do. And so, if you say I have the President’s ear, then I am truly ‘guilty’ just like my colleagues, because we all do,” said Waiguru.
